Join us for a vigil on Saturday, 11 May to commemorate the murder of Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, on this day in 2022, and to raise awareness of the targetted killing of journalists in Gaza by Israel.
We will also gather to call out Western media organisations and their failure to report on Palestine in a balance, accurate and humanising way.
At the same time we acknowledge that our newsrooms are under threat, and so we gather to stand in solidarity with journalists and to stand for public media as fundamental to any democratic society, in Palestine and Aotearoa.
We will hear from journalists and members of our community [will check with speakers if can name], show our respect for the murdered journalists, and demand action from the media and our government.
