Brazilian Winter Festival - Festa Junina - IX Arraiá do Brasileirinho Fundraising Celebrating 10 years of Brasileirinho NZ
Brasileirinho NZ is a non for profit Community Group, aiming to keep and promote the Brazilian Language and Culture in New Zealand.
Festa Junina, or the Winter Festival, is a Catholic tradition that was introduced to Brazil during the country’s colonization by Portugal (from 1500 to 1822). Its events are based on the European Midsummer festivities, which celebrate the harvest and the saints, mainly Saint Anthony, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Peter. Despite its religious origins, the emphasis of Festa Junina is on creating a large social gathering of dancing, drinking, and eating, all over the country.
Lots of games, typical food, traditional music and dance. A fun afternoon for the whole family.
Come enjoy one of the most traditional celebrations in Brazil with us - Festa Junina! This festival is typically celebrated in June, however, this year we will celebrate in July due to covid restrictions!
Entrance for children 14 years and under is free.
